Letter adalah text functional yang merupakan materi SKL no.12

Letter adalah text yang berupa surat, lengkap dengan addressee/penerima, addresser/pengirim, pembukaan surat, isi surat, penutup surat.

Ada bermacam-macam surat, ada surat yang bersifat pribadi ada yang bersifat resmi. Biasanya, surat resmi dilengkapi dengan kepala surat (kop surat) yang menunjukkan pengirim surat lengkap dengan alamat kantor/perusahaan. 

Kinds of letters:

-    Private/personal letter                     : surat pribadi

-    Formal letter                                       : surat resmi

Part of the letter:

-  Address of the writer ( alamat penulis ketika menulis surat)

-  Date of writing the latter ( tanggal penulisan surat)

-  Addressee (yang dikirimi surat)

-  Salutation

-  Opening ( pembukaan surat)

-  Content of the letter ( isi surat)

-  Closing (penutup)

- Addresser/writer ( pengirim/penulis surat )

Isi (content) surat juga berbeda-beda, sesuai dengan maksud penulis menulis surat tersebut.

Function  of the Letter based on its content:

- Permission Letter                               : surat ijin

- Invitation letter                                  : surat undangan

- Asking/giving information                 : surat yang berisi meminta /memberi informasi

- Telling experience                             : menceritakan pengalaman

- Asking/giving advice                         : meminta/memberi nasehat

- Asking/giving/offering help               : meminta/memberi/menawarkan bantuan.

- Asking for apology                            : meminta maaf

- Expressing gratitude                          : Ungkapan terima kasih

- Expressing sympathy                         : Ungkapan rasa simpatik

- Expressing praise                               : mengungkapkan rasa menghargai

- Expressing complaint                         : mengungkapkan rasa protes

- Expressing satisfied                           : mengungkapkan rasa puas

- Expressing disappointment                : mengungkapkan rasa kekecewaan

- Expressing proud                               : mengungkapkan rasa bangga

- Expressing embarrassing/ashamed     : rasa malu

  * ingat : Tanggal penulisan surat ada di bagian kiri/kanan atas surat.

  * Kata “tomorrow” didalam surat berarti satu hari setelah tanggal surat. 

  *  Kata “ yesterday” di dalam surat bearati satu hari sebelum tanggal penulisan surat. Demikian juga

      kata lain yang berhubungan dengan waktu, seperti “two weeks ago’, “two weeks later” dan sebagainya

     supaya dicermati dan dihitung dari tanggal penulisan surat.

It is interesting to read about the farming tools used by farmers in our village.             Unlike the farmers in our village, most farmers in our country use machines to help the work. The machines are very useful since most farms are very big. They use tractors to plow the land. Another machine is a seed drill, it makes holes in the ground, then it drops seed into them. It may even drop a small amount of fertilizer with each seed. Farmers with large farms sometimes use planes to plant seed. They also use planes to spray chemical onto the rice fields. When harvest time comes they also use a machine called a combine to cut the rice. It also separates the rice kernels from the stalks. You know that the combine can harvest more grain than 200 people working by land.             Well, that’s all for this time.
